The Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship is already looking ahead to 2027 following a historic edition
The Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship, held from May 7-10 May at the Real Club de Golf del Prat, was an complete success, featuring a historic victory for Yurav Premlall, a strong performance from the Spanish golfers, a tribute to Seve Ballesteros with global impact, and the first step towards the 2031 Ryder Cup, which will take place at the Camiral resort. With a view to 2027, the DP World Tour has already set up a registration form for anyone interested in receiving information about the tournament, which can be accessed here.
On the sporting front, and against the impeccable backdrop of the pink course at the Real Club de Golf El Prat, South African Yurav Premlall (-28) secured a resounding victory with a 14-stroke lead over his compatriot Shaun Norris and a 15-stroke lead over a trio led by the top-placed Spaniard, Alejandro del Rey.
Premlall’s result sets a record for the largest margin of victory over the runner-up in regular DP World Tour events. The only record that surpasses this on the circuit is the 15-stroke margin achieved by Tiger Woods at the 2000 US Open.
In addition to the aforementioned Del Rey, Rafa Cabrero Bello, in sixth place, and Eugenio Chacarra, in tenth, put in a very impressive performance and led the local contingent. Also standing out were Iván Cantero, Alfredo García Heredia, Jorge Campillo, Nacho Elvira, Adri Arnaus, Rocco Repetto, Ángel Hidalgo and Quim Vidal, a member of the Real Club de Golf El Prat.

The tournament featured an exceptional prologue, as on 7 May, during the first day of the competition, a tribute was paid to Seve Ballesteros to mark the 15th anniversary of his passing. Players, caddies, officials, volunteers and fans remembered Seve by wearing navy blue and white, an initiative conceived by his son, Javier Ballesteros, which extended beyond the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship and permeated the entire world of golf. Furthermore, Seve was prominently featured in the graphics and flags along the pink course at the Real Club de Golf El Prat.
More than 21,000 spectators attended the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship and enjoyed the golfers’ brilliant play, the shopping and dining areas, the hospitality pavilion and the many activities organised as part of the tournament.
This spectacular event marked the start of the European Swing, the European leg of the Race to Dubai, and took the first step on the road to the 2031 Ryder Cup. In that year, the world’s most important team event, pitting the United States against Europe, will come to Catalonia for the first time and to Spain for the second (following the 1997 event at the Real Club Valderrama), making our country the first in continental Europe to host this competition twice.
Until then, there are four more editions of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship to be played at various Catalan clubs, culminating at the Camiral resort, the venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup. Anyone interested in receiving further information can fill in a simple form and sign up to keep up to date with the latest news on the tournament here.
